The dress Princess Diana walked down the aisle in nearly 40 years ago is on display at the late princess’s former London home.

The taffeta-ruffled white dress designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel. Its 25-foot (8 meters) sequin-encrusted train helped give the fairytale image of the wedding of Lady Diana Spencer and the heir to the British throne, her then-husband Prince Charles. Diana rode to her wedding looking close to Cinderella in a glass coach alongside her father.

The couple was only married for 11 years, getting a divorce after acknowledging extramarital affairs. Princess Diana died in 1997 in a car accident.

The wedding dress is loaned by Princess Diana’s son Prince William and Prince Harry, for the exhibition “Royal Style in the Making.” The exhibit also features sketches, photographs and gowns designed for three generations of royal women, including Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother. It runs until January of 2022.

The dress sits in a large glass enclosure where a full view of it can be seen. The dress is estimated to cost nearly $500,000 in today’s money. The wedding was one of the most extravagant events in the Palace’s history and is still noted today.

Guests can all but relive the magical moment by stepping into Kensington palace to look at the work of art that is Princess Diana’s wedding dress.
