Fort Wood Cannons Relocated For Repainting

Cannons flew through the air this week at UTC.

Workers closed Oak Street as the giant crane hauled the cannons 25 feet up in the air in front of Patten House.

The cannons are now in Lookout Valley for rehab work that will include repainting with weather-resistant green epoxy. The stainless steel stakes will now secure them to the ground.

The cannons were made in 1862 out of cast iron. When they were catalogued in 1959, they had a worth of $525 each.
