UTC’s Fourth Annual Photo Night Commences

UTC’s fourth annual Photo Night was held in Derthick Hall on Wednesday night.

Photo Night is a special night dedicated to celebrating the work of students, UTC professor Billy Weeks, and the speakers Weeks invites.

“Every semester, photojournalism 2 puts on Photo Night at the university,” says Vikka Schweer, a UTC student currently taking photojournalism 2. “Every year, we just have a couple speakers come out, and it gets not only photojournalism [students], but a lot of students from different majors just to see what it’s like to be a photojournalist on the job.”

Photo Night emphasizes the importance of photojournalism and helps give an explanation on the career.

Weeks invited four professional photojournalists, including Cody Schmelter, who had this to say:

“With Billy and with Mark [Johnson], I know personally because I was in [Weeks’s] classes, and I’m sure the other people are the same way that if you love what you do, and you have a passion for it, you can make it happen as a career. I think loving what you do is really important; that’s not just for photojournalism.”
