The unexpected floods that arose from torrential rain that swept across the Mediterranean Sea left the country of Libya in devastation with thousands of people dead along with tremendous damage to the country.

According to CNN News, international rescue teams are calling for help to retrieve bodies of the victims from the floods that occurred on Sept. 11th, 2023.
“Bodies are severely decomposing and at one point retrieving them might not be possible,” the representative of the Tunisian mission said in a meeting held with CNN News captures the devastation of the floods that occurred in Libya. his counterparts from Arab countries, Russia, Turkey and Italy in Derna. “We need assistance, so our intervention is more efficient,” (CNN News).
The death has risen at least 11,300 people according to NBC News. As well as another 10,100 people missing all due from the effects of the massive flood.
More than 1,000 bodies have been buried in mass graves. And according to Reuters.com, aid groups have warned against this practice due to polluted waters.
Survivors and victims of the flood have fled to the capital of the eastern administration, Benghazi.
“More then 2,000 storm-affected and displaced people,” According to UN News, “have already received food and distributions are ongoing.”
WFP (UN World Food Programme) is aiming to reach at least 5,000 people who have been affected. On Wednesday, the first dispatched shipment of food assistance was sent in the wake of the floods.
