Members of “Religious Group” Reported on Campus

The UTC Police Department has received reports from students who were approached on campus on Monday, January 29, by individuals claiming to represent a religious organization and asking students for personal contact information. UTC Police are also aware that instances of this nature have been recently reported on other college campuses from the same organization requesting similar information.

UTC students reported feeling uncomfortable with the information being asked and contacted the UTC Police for assistance.

Physical descriptions of these people include two African American females, approximately 5’7” in height with one of the women having a beauty mark beneath one of her eyes and both wearing hair buns; one young woman of Pacific Island descent; and one African American college-age female wearing her hear in long braids. All the women appear to be no older than college age. Also, descriptive reports include a college-age male of Asian descent and a college-age African American male over six-feet in height with no facial hair also approaching UTC students.

This organization has not registered with the University for access to campus property in accordance with the specific requirements as established by University Policy.

At this time, UTC Police cannot substantiate any claims that indicate the organization is involved in any criminal activity.

We would like to remind our campus community to always be aware of your surroundings and report suspicious persons or activity on campus to the UTC Police Department at (423) 425-4357, by means of a campus “Blue Light” telephone, or 911 in case of an emergency.
