Dear Students,
As the UTC community continues to respond to the novel Coronavirus, campus leaders have been working to minimize the financial impact on students. One way to reduce the financial impact is to issue refunds for certain auxiliary student services that will no longer be used. After collaborating with our UT System colleagues, it has been decided that refunds will be issued to students for the unused portion of campus housing, meal plans, and parking decals. Details of these refunds are outlined below.
Campus Housing – Refunds will be issued to residential students based on the residence hall daily rate multiplied by the remaining 44 days in the spring semester as of March 16, unless a residential student was approved to stay in Housing beyond March 16. For residential students that were approved to stay in Housing beyond March 16, refunds will be issued based on the residence hall daily rate multiplied by the number of days remaining in the spring semester beginning with the day after the check-out occurs.
Meal Plans (Mocs Bucks and Board Meals) – Mocs Bucks refunds will be issued in full, less any outstanding balance from the Fall 2019 semester that was carried forward, to non-residential and residential students not remaining in Housing. Board meal refunds will be issued to non-residential and residential students based on the daily rate for board meals multiplied by the remaining days in the spring semester as of March 16, unless a residential student was approved to stay in Housing beyond March 16. For residential students that were approved to stay in Housing beyond March 16, refunds will be issued based on the daily rate for board meals multiplied by the number of days remaining in the spring semester beginning with the day after the check-out occurs. Regardless of the student check-out date, the remaining days in the semester for the board meal refunds will vary based on the meal plan type.
Parking – Refunds will be issued to non-residential and residential students based on the parking decal type daily rate multiplied by the remaining 44 days in the spring semester as of March 16. For residential students that were approved to stay in Housing beyond March 16, refunds will be issued based on the parking decal type daily rate multiplied by the number of days remaining in the semester. Parking decals do not need to be returned to receive the refund.
Process – Refunds will be applied as credits to the student’s MyMocsNet account. Any outstanding balance on the account will be deducted from the credit before the refund is issued. Refunds will be issued via an ACH deposit or by check. Student athletes who received scholarships for housing and/or meal plans will have the refund credited to the athletic scholarship they previously received.
Timeline – Refunds for non-residential and residential students will be processed on April 1. Students signed-up for ACH deposit will receive the refunds on April 2. If a student is not signed-up for ACH deposit, the Bursar’s Office will mail the refund checks to the student on April 2. Refunds for residential students that were approved to stay in Housing beyond March 16 will be processed within two weeks after the student checks-out of Housing.
ACH Deposit Instructions – If not done so already, students are encouraged to sign-up for an ACH deposit. This can be done by completing the following: Log into your MyMocsNet account> Click on the Money tab> Click on Go to My Account> Click on Electronic Refunds near the top right of the page> Click on the Refunds tab and complete the steps to create the account. If a student does not have an ACH setup and does not wish to create one, please be sure your mailing address is updated. Students can do this by completing the following steps: Login into your MyMocsNet account> Click on the Resources tab> Click on the Update Addresses and Phones option and complete the steps to update the information.
