UTC Hosts Two Documentaries On International Civil Rights

UTC hosted two documentaries about the injustice of civil rights in other countries.

The History Club hosted a viewing of the documentary “Stranger in my Homeland” and even had the filmmaker, Chloe Traicos, speak about the film.

“What I wanted was to make people aware of what is happening in Zimbabwe. Of how, sort of how lucky we are in the U.S. and other countries and that we at least can have elections where people aren’t killed for voting for the wrong party.”

The other documentary, “Tickling Giants,” was shown on the same night. The documentary tells about the story of comic Bassem Youssef, and the government’s desire to mandate freedom of speech in Egypt.

The documentaries gave students a chance to question not only their role in society, but the government as well.
