Chattanooga looks to the future

Chattanooga’s new neighborhood, ‘The Bend’ is under its first of many phases.

The city of Chattanooga is creating its next move in cleaning up the city. Chattanooga is a fast moving city, always trying to encourage change, advancement and growth.

Chattanooga was once known as the most polluted city in the United States. Since then, citizens of the city and other local officials have gotten together to start the clean up process our beautiful city deserves.

‘The Bend’ is a new neighborhood that is going to be transform the old Alstom industrial site, off of Riverfront Parkway. ‘The Bend’ aspirers to be Chattanooga’s next “great experience” for those of all ages, colors, shapes, sizes, backgrounds and more. Anyone who wants to celebrate life with their community gets too, through ‘The Bend’ neighborhood.

Phase one for ‘The Bend’ started in 2020 and phase two will begin in the 2 quarter of 2022. They are anticipating this to be a 10 year project with over 700 jobs created. The ideas for the neighborhood include shops, restaurants, green space, a marina and canal district, residential buildings, and an entertainment district.

Chattanooga City Council approved for an 11 story building to be apart of this development and also for it to extend all the way to the edge of the river. There will be great opportunities for work, living, dining, fun and many other adventures.

Businessman Jimmy White tells writer for the Chattanooga Times Free Press, Mike Pare, that the redevelopment of the Alstom property could bring $2 billion to $3 billion in investments, add over $11 million in tax revenue annually for Chattanooga and Hamilton County and more than 5,000 jobs.

Chattanooga continues to grow and change as its people do. Chattanooga, nick-named ‘The Scenic City’, was once known to be one of the worst places to live in the country, is now known for its beauty and outdoor attractions. This new development will create another opportunity for community within our city.
